Automation 03:16
Science says hey Twenty years from now The underground workers Are call-center miners Company says hey Twenty years from now The hands to control Are holding the stick The operator says hey But can’t be seen A whisper in the dark A cyber voice The manager says hey It’s safety first From stones on head To the paper-cut miner ”Proximity detection” in a global mine Manual labour in an automated mine Facing the unknown in a standardized mine The mine says hey More human flexibility More human adaptability Too much technology Automation, automation No hands in the mine Automation, automation No minds in the mine Automation, automation No mine without hands Automation, automation No mine without minds Automation, Automation...

Wolfpack 04:04
Can you show me What’s going on What’s everybody looking at But no one sees Can you tell me What’s on your mind What’s left unspoken But that everybody knows [CHORUS] It’s the wolfpack Howling in silence Watching you move Letting you go It’s the wolfpack Howling in silence Watching its space Letting you stay I say letting you stay Letting you stay Can you move me Tell me a story Look me in the eyes Speak from your heart Can you fool me Tell me a lie Look me in the eyes Say you don’t care [CHORUS] Wolfpack ooooh Let me show you A story you know A story you feel But that’s never been told Put into words Put into colors A humble return A powerful tool [CHORUS]

Blasts in the past Blasts in the future Below tunnels are expanding Aftershocks are widening The city is moving Were will I go? Blast - gotta move Everytime we meet The value shrinks We want to act together They negotiate us separately The city is moving Were will I go? Blast - gotta move It takes more than one for a society It takes mutual togetherness But we are together yet apart Separated by the powers that be Large scale society are here Community we’re are you? Staying in Kiruna? A flat for a flat Market in-between Lonely I must compete From: Luossavaara and Kebnekaise Chimenys and windmills To: Death Valley Trees and hills The city is moving Were will I go? Blast - gotta move Silently angry Drinking helps The state withdraws Dumping all at The Company’s feet

I’m worried, mom The ground shakes and I’m thinking of you I cannot focus, wish you were here Are you okay, can you feel my fear I see the gas The sound of machines and I’m thinking about stones I’m focused, on getting it out No margins, there’s no room for errors I’m worried, mom The ground shakes and I’m thinking of you Where are you, why don’t you call I love you, I’m shaking, afraid to fall I see my loader We’ll make it and all of us grow We’re family here, together standing tall They care, all for one, one for all I’m worried, mom The ground shakes and I’m thinking of you Please come home, no more below Hold me close, stay above, watch me grow I’m dead tired My head spins, exhausted from the tension On the sofa, the ground still moves Work leaves my body, my eyes slowly close

The Sound 01:50
A hundred and twenty years of mining Man and his machines drills deeper and deeper Layer after layer are excavated Parts of the mountain’s inner composition collapses It’s getting warmer, wetter, but the sound The sound 775 meters it creeks in high pitch 1365 it profoundly moans in a deep voice Will it strike back?

Pumping Iron 04:28
On the bench, steel on your chest Do or die, it burns and it akes It’s all iron, iron ore It’s all iron, down to your bone Fills your breast, fucks your head Leaves you empty, craving for more It’s all iron, iron ore It’s all iron, down to your soul You’re pumping iron, music is loud You’re a moneymaker, time to pay It’s all iron, iron ore It’s all iron, down to your bone Dark days, dark skies No light shining, no time to fly Dreaming away, longing for home It’s a mother ship, her embrace is warm Take the stairs out of the basement Thank you mama, but why you leave me sore It’s all iron, iron ore It’s all iron, down to your soul

I once knew a girl, one of a kind Well they all are, but this one, stuck in my mind She had black eyes, she had black hands Her hair was tied up, underneath her helmet Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Her look was intense, you could wear no mask She wasn’t the strongest, but she could move a mountain Mind over body, solid rocks became air Men knew their place, enough to hide their despair Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine All the history books, she wasn’t there It was all without her, cause she didn’t exist An invisible, unless men were served Unless men were grieved, the kitchen was her reserve Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Time to write, to rewrite the books To bring what has been, in another light This has to be done, without Black eyed Eve Cause as far as I know, she is a mystery Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine A lie to a truth, to open up the past That the mine is about men, that women never blast A lie to revoke, that history is made Nerver carved in stone, always a political tale Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine Black-eyed Eve, first lady in the mine

Doggy Style 03:37
A tit for a butt A pussy for a dick On a wall, not allowed In a meeting, well okay! Ape and society Men and their caves Girls and big tires In a mindful mine The true story of doggy style Is a story of unwillingness Of exclusion Of inequality A pose for a pose Sexuality and taste We have gay people We are an okay mine Norms and society People and their caves We like you beard But we’re not gay The true story of the commons is a story of assymmetry Of suppression Of depression The true story of common style is above all a story of oppression A tit for a butt sexuality and taste Come work for us Tell us how it is

Pullman City 02:51
The story of a man And his model community A Utopia in micro-size Or so the story goes Take me back to Pullman city To where it all began To when the town was one No divide, between you and I [CHORUS] Meeting the needs of the people Within boundaries set by the company But needs go down the drain When business is poor And laysoffs are rich And the people they go on strike Take me back to Pullman city The beauty of an idea In the hands of a man Who built a society in two Take me back to Pullman city To where it all went wrong Where the cult of personality Got misplaced for society [CHORUS] Take me back to Pullman city The travel of an idea To a visionary man In a Swedish mining town The winner makes history But cast a long shadow Creating hidden collectives A haunting past in the presence [CHORUS]

This is not an unhappy song Don’t think twice about that Just because it’s in a minor key And dressed-up in lo-fi style It is a realistic song, yet somewhat hard Hard to beat, hard to accept But thats part of the messiness in research This is not a blame and shame song Don’t think twice about that Just because it is about relational breakdown and oozing of how corporate power interferes It is a personal song, about failed dialogues Hard to beat, hard to accept human interaction matter Outside the gates we struggle where to go next Outside the gates it feels as the project disappeared Inside our minds we have to adapt Inside our minds we have to overcome What has now become a radically different endeavor Calls for the ”science of muddling through” But what says that this is bad and disappointing? Maybe there are other gates to be entered This is not a complaint song Don’t think twice about that Just because it is mellow and slow and sung with a low voice and hunged head It is a hopeful song, full of promises Hard to beat, hard to accept Yet breakdowns leads to new questions

about

Organizing rocks started in 2015 as a research project about labour processes and power relations in the mining industry (www.organizingrocks.org), conducted by professors Tommy Jensen and Johan Sandström. The musical side of the project also includes doctor Michał Zawadzki. Production is the second album by Organizing rocks (the first, Spaceland, was released in May 2016). Thanks to the miners and other lovely folks in Kiruna, Sweden, and Saskatchewan, Canada, who warmheartedly invited us to share their working life and life experiences with us. Production was recorded between spring 2015 and January 2016 in Tommy’s living room in Solna, Sweden, and in the Lubelstudio, Krakow, Poland.
